Now That Everything’s Melting, It’s a Poopy Situation

Two days in a row now, since the warm melt we’ve been experiencing, I have been completely disappointed and a little disgusted with some dog owners – this makes us all look irresponsible!

It’s no wonder that non-dog owners are frustrated, and sometimes outraged, about having to share public spaces with our dogs. If you own a dog, it is your responsibility to pick up after him or her! I know that some dog walkers think that the snow will make the piles disappear, but that’s simply not the case. Once frozen, those piles with stay put until warmer weather turns it into a soggy mess for people and other pets to walk through.

No matter what the weather, please stoop and scoop!

Check out our previous post about some waste removal options and why picking up is so important HERE.

All of our local pet supply stores, as well as Walmart and many grocery stores, sell poop bags and dispensers. My personal favourites can be found at Winners – they are biodegradable, are inexpensive, and smell like lavender (see image below). Use what you have though (plastic bags of any kind), because it doesn’t have to be pretty!

Just, please, pick up after your dog. It’s not only a respectful thing to do, but it’s the law. It would be pretty embarrassing to get fined over a pile of poop, wouldn’t it?

  1. I can’t believe how terrible Topsail Island is…the whole path leading out to the “island” is covered in doodoo. I have been taking Mud to the Bruce Street Park because it’s so close to our house and it is also peppered with poop. Not only is it illegal to leave it (and lazy) but a health hazard for other puppers.
